CANDY CANES Are Good For You!

Candy Canes Fight Germs, Settle Stomachs...

Dec. 24, 2008 - New studies on peppermint, the key flavoring in traditional candy canes, reveal the herb may do everything from kill germs to treat digestive troubles. Some researchers now advise consumers to eat a tablespoon or more of fresh peppermint, and other green herbs, daily. Peppermint oil, found in most candy canes, also appears to have health benefits. A recent British Medical Journal study, led by McMaster University researcher Alex Ford, concludes that peppermint oil should be the first line of defense against irritable bowel syndrome, a condition characterized by abdominal pain and irregular bowels that affects between 5 to 20 percent of the population. Peppermint oil, and other potent essential oils, may even one day be wafted in their vapor form over food to prevent the growth of bacteria.

How about that!

Postcard Ornaments & MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I made these sweet ornaments out of vintage postcards I printed out. They measure 5x3 1/2 inches. I used glass glitter from Germany for sparkle! The glitter glass gets a patina as years go by which makes them look vintage. I have 3 trees set up this year and this tree is feminine in honor of my Mother Gloria & Mother-in-law LaVerne. It's my favorite tree each year!
I will be taking a short break and will be back after Christmas! Still lots to, oh my! I want to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! It means so much to me that you have come by to visit over the last few months. See you real soon! God Bless!

The goodies are already starting to arrive! This is a yummy pumpkin bread packed with chocolate chips! Oh, My!
Thanks Debi!
BEWARE: Scary looking Elves (but very nice)!
These are two sweet Christmas elves I have had for years. Each year they were in a different place of the house watching the kids to see if they were naughty or nice! The kids actually thought they were scary looking! My little dog Samantha doesn't care for them either! LOL!

One of my favorite Christmas plates, a Fitz & Floyd.

Peek-a-Boo, do you see me?! It's kinda hard to stay out of the picture when taking a picture of a "shiny brite" ornament! LOL!

I am enjoying visiting your sweet blogs and peeking into your homes especially during this Christmas season! It is like unwrapping a gift each time I do!

Where the Family Gathers

This is our fireplace mantel in our Family Room where we spend most of our time. This is quite a large room but the fireplace is in the far off to decorate some Christmas trees! XO

Candlelight Pictures

This pretty glow is from my "piano mantel". Yes, mantel. In our last home we had 3 fireplaces, so I am used to decorating 3 fireplace mantels. So to make do this year, my 3 mantels are the hutch, piano and 1 real fireplace! I know a piano is an instrument and not a piece of furniture but I just couldn't help myself! LOL! This mantel looks so pretty at night. All pieces are vintage except for the glitter balls. The glittered Christmas tree candles are vintage.
More sweet memories of days gone by. XO

Cozy Dining Room

The dining room is the first room decorated! Finally! I will take pictures as I go...these days it takes me longer to get things done! I have tons of boxes filled with Christmas decor but I am decorating simpler this year. We have had this hutch, table & chairs for years. It has served us well and we have gathered hundreds of times with family and friends around it. Sweet memories and more to make. I am thinking I may paint it all WHITE next year. I have seen so many sweet blogs with painted white "old" dining sets and they look gorgeous!
What do you think?! Merry Christmas!

Christmas Is In The Air!

Christmas is in the air in our home and neighborhood! Just being together with our family for Thanksgiving and helping trim daughter #2's Christmas tree last night, sure bought out the holiday spirit within me. I am now in full swing for Christmas! Today I hear ladders clinking, staples snapping as we and our neighbors put up our house Christmas lights. Soon I will share with you some Christmas home decorating pictures.
Take a deep breath and enjoy the sweetness in the air! For starters, here are a few ideas to help make this Christmas extra special!
*Don't forget whose birthday we are celebrating!
*Be the first to wish everyone you meet a Merry Christmas!
*On a clear night, find the bright North Star & recall the story of the Wise Men.
*Enjoy a couple of meals illuminated only by the Christmas tree.
*Don't let a rude person steal your Christmas joy.
*This Christmas, give yourself the gift of living in peace with those things you cannot change.
*Take a shut-in a scrumptious Christmas dinner.
*Don't count calories from December 15 through January 2nd!!!!
*Give from the heart.
*During the month, crank up the Christmas music!
*Wear a CHRISTMAS apron while cooking in the kitchen.
*Throughout the holiday season, give your family the gift of a sweet disposition.
*Put something Christmasy in every room in the house.
*Remember that Christmas carols never sound better than when you sing them in church.
*Record a cheerful Christmas greeting for your answering machine.
*Watch It's a Wonderful Life.
*Pray that Heavenly Father will help you see opportunities to be a blessing to others this Christmas.
*Never ever, refuse a holiday dessert!!!
*Remember that peace on earth starts with peace in our hearts.
More to come...XO

Strawberry Patches

This passed weekend while visiting my son Nathan and his family,
my daughter-in-law Stephanie took me to the CUTEST fabric store ever! It is called Strawberry Patches located in Bakersfield, CA.
Oh girls, we sure had fun and it was hard to tear myself away from this store. I felt like I had died and gone to heaven!
Below is some fabric I bought to make some pillowcases
and aprons! Isn't the ladies undies adorable!
The ric-rac is a hugh 1 1/12 inches!
I can't wait to go back to play with the grandbabes Brayden & Sadie
and sneak over to Strawberry Patches!

If you are in the area stop by and say hello to Suzanne!
I dare ya not to buy some fabric! LOL!
