EASY Monkey Bread!

This is a EASY way to make Monkey Bread with Rhodes frozen rolls and it tastes heavenly! My daughters make it and I thought I would give it a try! Hubby gave his big stamp of approval!

Here goes!

Spray pan. Add 12-18 Rhodes frozen rolls.

Add: 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, and 3/4 tsp. cinnamon. Mix & sprinkle over frozen rolls.

I added a handful of chopped nuts~optional.

Let rise.

Bake for approx. 20 minutes.

As soon as it is out of the oven, turn upside down on a plate.

For frosting mix together:

4 cups powdered sugar, 1/2 cube butter, 1 tsp. vanilla & enough milk to the consistently you prefer. **You can half this because you will have some left over for the next batch! Just freeze it!

Drizzle (pour!) over top.

Yes, I used a little to much...heehee!

You can pull it apart or cut with a knife.

Made More Laundry Detergent!

Many of you know I have been making my own laundry detergent/soap for 4 years now. I love it! Just before Christmas I ran out of my laundry soap and didn't have time to get the supplies with a houseful of guests. So....I used a small bottle of store~bought liquid detergent I had stored in the back of the cabinet.

***I noticed after washing the towels, dish clothes, etc. they did not smell fresh. After getting them wet, they smelled worse! That never happens when I use my homemade soap.
Anyhoo, the bottom line is, I just made another fresh batch and stickin' to it!

Ivy St. Market & Trailer

The first Saturday of each month I am part of Ivy St. Market in Murrieta, CA. It was another fun, successful day! The weather was in the high 70's and so pretty. I love meeting people and seeing return customers! My 10 year old granddaughter Hailey came to spend the day with me and what a great help she was.

I had so much fun making more clipboards.

Here are a few out of the 14 I made. I made some small ones also.

I made this cute retro valentine garland. Each valentine measures approx. 8 x 11 inches.

Last time I had so many people wanting to buy my dish drainer displays, so this time I had some for sale! You can buy them at Walmart. :)

I made several more journals & tags but I forgot to get pictures of them.

Tours of the trailer went on all day!

I love how it even brings in the guys! They love to talk about trailers, restoring them and of course I have to bring up fly fishing and that I love to fish! That keeps them a little longer while the gals shop! LOL! There are so many women now on the lookout for a trailer!

I will be adding new things for next month! If you are in the area, come on by! It's easy to find the little trailer and the gal (me) wearing an apron and pink cowgirl boots!

A Little Snack!

So many times when I am crafting for my Etsy shops or for Ivy St. Market, I forget to eat OR eat the wrong things! I saw a visual on blogland that I ran with! This way I can see what I am eating in a fun way using plastic cupcake liners.

I love greek pita chips and...

I love using a Vernonware "Tickled Pink" plate! I seem to stop for a minute and savor each nibble!

A Very Special Christmas Tree!

Each year I set up this tree in honor of my darling Mother Gloria and Mother-in-law LaVerne, who have both passed. We miss them and especially this time of the year. They made Christmas very special.

Another Quick Gift Idea!

31 Day Planning Guide!

The Christmas season came fast upon my heels this year! I want to enjoy the holidays and plan on getting things done earlier this year. ROMANTIC HOMES magazine is filled with wonderful Christmas decorating ideas. These are pictures of a darling home that is featured in in the magazine! Such inspiration to get me jump started! It also includes the "Ultimate Holiday Planning Guide ~ 31 days to get ready! Perfect, since it is still November!

Love all the color! I put a Christmas tree in my kitchen too!

Now off to get my Christmas boxes out and make a little trip to our new Hobby Lobby with these colors in mind!

We are having a houseful for Thanksgiving!

Family is already starting to arrive and more to come! We love gathering the family together to make new memories and reflect on years passed. We miss those who have gone before us and rejoice in our sweet new arrivals.

We count our blessings and give all thanks to our Heavenly Father.

Homemade Sugar Scrub!

My skin has been so dry, I decided to make some
homemade sugar scrub!
This homemade recipe is so yummy you will want to eat it! LOL! The smell is heavenly.

It is good for all over the body but I especially

made it for my face. It leaves it so soft!

This is all you need:

white sugar
brown sugar

olive oil

vanilla

Equal parts of sugar, mix together,
add enough olive oil to the consistency you like and 1 capful

of vanilla.
Put in a jar with a lid and enjoy!

The sugar scrub makes great Christmas gifts too!

***Questions answered:

1. No it is not drying at all! Leaves skin moisturized and soft.

2. I have searched the Internet and have not found how long a sugar scrub lasts. One person wrote that they use it everyday and their scrub lated a month. I suggest you make small batches at a time. You will never know how long it lasts because you will use it up! That has been my case. I love, love, love it!

3. It does not "break out" my body or face. At this point in my life, I need all the oil I can get! :)

Ivy St. Market & Blogging Friends!

The Ivy St. Market was so much fun! I had great sells and met wonderful people. I have lots of pictures to share. I got a new Apple Computer that I am trying to learn as I go. I found that I can have some fun editing pictures with it. This post is using the "antique" effects which goes well with my vintage trailer theme!

My FAVORITE part of the day was when some darling blogger friends I have never met, came to visit! I was thrilled to pieces and it was so surreal! I love these women. They are just as cute as their blogs!

My hair sure went flat by the time it started. I started setting up at 5:30am, it was still wet and cold out (38 degrees). So any curls I may have had, were gone...

My New Love, Chalk Paint by Annie Solan!

On Saturday I went to a wonderful boutique called "An Affaire at the Barn" by Pikin' Chixs in Menifee, CA. What fun! I hope to be a vender there in February! It was held in a beautiful huge old barn filled with talented crafters.
Sharon did a wonderful job pulling this "Affarie" together!

There is where I found my new love, Chalk Paint by Annie Solan!
A darling So. CA Stockist Andrea Young of Chalk Paint showed me that I cannot live without it (she didn't say that)! She is my new best friend! YOU CAN BUY CHALK PAINT FROM HER. (click on Andrea's name).

I learned that you DO NOT have to prime or prepare, just clean your piece of furniture and start painting! My kind of thing, EASY! After you paint, you put Soft Wax on it, then buff it to a nice sheen. I am hooked.

I bought this wall adornment at the Barn!

It is made out of a old headboard. It is large and very heavy. It is 5 feet x 2 1/2 feet. It will go on my dining room wall. I will take a pic of it when hubby hangs it this week!
It is painted with Chalk Paint! :0

I love that it says FAMILY.

The Chalk Paint comes in so many beautiful colors!
I have lots of plans for the house! LOL!

Check out Miss Mustard Seed. She uses Chalk Paint in lots of her projects!

Recipes!

Recipes from the baby shower I promised!

Yummy Cheese Ball

2 - 8 oz. cream cheese

1 cup thinly sliced ham

3-4 green onions, chopped

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

several black olives, cut in fourths

Mix together all ingredients. Roll into 2 cheese balls.
Wrap in plasic wrap and chill overnight or several hours.

(Most times, we can't wait and start right in!)

Serve with Wheat Thins Crackers.

Chicken Salad

This is so yummy! I double it for a party.
~

4 cooked, chunked, chicken breast

1/2 can chow mein noodles

3/4 cup sour cream

1/4 cup mayo

1/4 tsp. curry powder (I use a little more)

1 cup chopped celery

1/2 cup chopped red onion

1 can sliced waterchestnuts - drained

1 package slivered almonds

handful of diced red grapes - optional

juice of 1 lemon

Mix all together, except chow mein noodles. Chill. Add noodles just before serving.

Party Punch

1 gallon Hawaiian Punch - Polar Blast (it's blue)

1 - 2 litter 7-Up!

Welcome to my daughter Heidi's Baby Shower held this past weekend!

Daughter Shelli and I had so much fun planning this special day for her! I have posted 3 posts for you to see it all and get some ideas! Here goes with post #1!

I made this sweet journal for guest to sign and write in gifts given by guests and her thoughts.

We bought this large banner through Oriental Trading Company. Hung on the garage door to welcome guests.

A candy bar for the guest to package up a little Thank You token as they left.

This family bassinet is 77 years old! 21 babies in the family have used it starting in the 1930's!

Part #2 of Heidi's Baby Shower!

Daughter Shelli and I had so much fun planning the shower for daughter Heidi! We spent weeks planning and it all came together as we dreamed it to be! More pictures!

We used all my different quilts & china. Shelli made all the darling cupcakes for the centerpieces! Cute, cute!

We set up for 32 guests. Moved all the furniture out of our family room!

Used used Maison jars and cute straws for drinking. The women giggled and loved it!

To drink, we made refreshing cucumber water and blue fruit punch with 7-Up! Both were popular.

Part # 3 Heidi's Baby Shower

Sweet Hailey loved the baby shower held for her mommy! Her nails and dress match the punch!

Hailey and best friend Rina passed out the goodies for the games. This game is called "My water Broke!" Tiny plastic baby in frozen cube. First 3 to melt the cube and baby is completely out, shouts "My water broke!" wins!

Second game "The Poopie Diaper!"

We just put a little piece of brown fabric inside 3 diapers. 3 happy winners!

Sweet Heidi opening her gifts, while dear friend Stephanie writes what she gets. She is writing them in the cute baby journal I made! Can you see the cute "stork" pen she is using?

Tammy made Heidi a special little batch of German Chocolate cake pops! I had one, to die for!

This diaper cake made by Ana was adorable! Cutest one I have ever seen!

Another wonderful gift Heidi received from Stephanie is a huge set of handmade THANK YOU cards! What a clever gift!

A Dozen FRESH Eggs!

Our 2 sweet hens supply us with 2 eggs a day. They seem to add up quite fast, and we are able to share them now! I always know when a hen has laid her egg for the day because of all the excitement and joyful sounds they make! They cheer each other on, or as they say "egg each other on"! Gracie is laying larger eggs then Flossie but I am sure hers will become larger as the hens continue to mature.

This first "official" set of a dozen eggs went to our daughter Heidi! Can't wait to hear what she bakes with them!!!

I was thinking that if I ever run out of eggs, all I need to do is wait until the morning and I will have 2 waiting for me! Enough to make a batch of yummy cookies! :)

Wedding Guest Book

I made this wedding guest book for my sweet sister Nanette. She was married for over 30 years to her sweetheart Bob and found herself a widow. After a time of grieving a little tender mercy came her way! She reunited with a wonderful guy she dated when she was 18 years old.
Fast forward...and now they are getting married!

We are very happy for her and Jeff.

She will use 100 wedding tags at each place setting attached to a Thank You token.

Her yummy colors are Tiffany Blue & Chocolate Brown.

They just put a smile on my face. These are made with a store bought cake mix and frosting from a cake store. A friend made these for us!

They didn't last long!

Fresh Eggs for My Buttermilk Pie!

I just made another Buttermilk Pie using my own hens eggs!
Cooking with them for the first time. The picture below was a double yolk egg! A sweet bonus. I love how yellow the yolks are. Hubby was excited we are now using our hens eggs. He said they are very expensive eggs! The first few are because of all the effort and cost you put into getting there. :)

The top of the pie is so crispy brown.

Look at these sweet eggs Gracie & Flossie laid.

The pie is so creamy, just like a custard.

Kathy from A Tiny Cottage On Grand said in a recent comment: "Well the secret is out. Folks from the deep south has had this pie as a staple for decades. It is also good in custard cups without the pie crust and caramelize the top for a wonderful dessert."

I love the first egg.

I read that chickens love plain yogurt, so I gave it a try!

Flossie always lets Gracie go first and she was a bit scared of the white goop.

Yummy!

Now Flossie makes her way over.

Yes, they loved their afternoon delight...plain yogurt!

They hardly came up to catch their breath!

More, pretty please?

They should start laying eggs any day now.

Next spring I will be getting more chickens. I love raising chickens!

HUGE UPDATE!

My hens laid their first eggs today!

After writing this post I checked on them and 2 eggs were in their coop!

I am a proud mama! Woohoo!

Keeping Busy in the Summertime!

We had such a fun week with the grandchildren! A full week of hosting family and having some special family time visiting, eating, and swimming. I miss everyone but they are ALL coming back next month! Yeah!

A Week at Grandma & Grandpa's!

Grandchildren Brayden & Sadie are here for a week! Their baby brother Ridge is only 3 months old but I am sure he can't wait to stay when he is a little older! Cousin Hailey couldn't wait to come see them and swim. We will have a houseful all week, then next month we will have all 12 grandchildren together again here! It's a great summer of family fun!

Our son Nathan is a pilot so he flew his own kids into our little airport this morning. It would have been a 3 hour drive, so flying was only an hour! Can't beat that!

I see a bird, no it's a plane, it's Brayden & Sadie!

There is my boy! I have flown with him in a smaller plane many times!

A big "Thumps Up" from Mommy, Sadie, Brayden & Daddy! A great flight.
Brayden was excited as always being his Daddy's co~pilot!

The cockpit. I have actually taken the yoke (wheel) and helped fly to Catalina Island one day! Nathan was looking at the map, my hands on the yoke, and eyes straight on the island. Scared, oh yeah! It was only for a minute or two but it seemed like an eternity!

Darling luggage and pillowcases I made them. I make them a new one each Christmas.

What's the first thing they want to do at Grandma's?
Swim of course, eat watermelon and feed the chickens!

We will cherish each day they are here at The Beehive Cottage.

Busy Bee Paper Crafting!

Make Your Own Candy Buttons!

Remember the old fashion candy buttons, that are still around? I LOVED them as a child and still do! Daughter Shelli made up a batch of them (and they actually taste better then the original) for our 4th of July gathering. They did not last long. I love her recipe and it doesn't leave paper in your mouth! Remember that?

I put them in these vintage jars that I have had for years.

CANDY BUTTONS

Ingredients:

1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
1 egg white
3 drops yellow food coloring
3 drops blue food coloring

A great tip! Piping is just like using a toothpaste tube, so the same rules apply: Squeeze from the end and keep the tip clean. (Save money and make your own pastry bag. Take a resealable plastic bag and snip off the tip of one corner.)

Directions:

Cut white computer paper (we all have that!) into twelve 2-by-11-inch strips. Using an electric mixer, beat the confectioners’ sugar and egg white until thick and smooth, about 5 minutes. Divide the icing into 2 small bowls. Stir the yellow food coloring into one batch and the blue food coloring into the other. Cover the blue icing with plastic wrap.Arrange the paper strips side by side on a work surface. Scrape the yellow icing into a small, resealable plastic bag and snip off a tiny corner. Pipe out the icing onto the paper strips in dots, about 1/3 inch apart in even rows of 3.
When about a quarter of the yellow icing remains, add approximately the same amount of blue icing to the bag, stirring with a toothpick. Continue to pipe green icing dots onto each paper strip. Transfer the blue icing to another small, resealable plastic bag and continue piping. Let the dots sit at room temperature until hardened, 12 hours or over night.
Yummy!

Summer Nights...lights!

I love summer nights...one of my favorite parts of summer! Eating outside, watching the stars and maybe catching a falling star to wish upon, a night swim, the list goes on! I have actually fallen asleep here on the front porch several times, day & night.

I made some little hanging lights for the tree in the front yard that can be used inside or outside.
At night they look like fireflies/lighting bugs (which we do not have in CA) and sparkle like a chandelier during the day.

A couple pictures of them inside. They make sweet night lights too!

This year I will be adding them to the backyard trees!

Now, here is a tree full of real fireflies! Amazing!

Two White Rocking Chairs!

Do you have a little place on earth where you can relax and forget your cares for a moment?

Remember the song "Up on the Roof " by the Drifters? (It's on my Playlist at the very bottom of this page #3). I LOVE that song...it just warms my heart and makes me smile. This is my place where hubby & I sit each evening in our backyard courtyard. It is horseshoe shape. The courtyard can be seen from the kitchen/family room, living room and master bedroom. A cozy setting. I go out many times during the day to eat a apple, ponder and watch the chickens to the far right of the yard. I rock to my hearts content!

In the afternoon a ocean breeze comes through that is heavenly.

Last month I made 5 sewing journals for sweet Lori at
Bee In My Bonnet

I posted about it but could not show you the journals because Lori hadn't revealed her fabric line "Sew Cherry" at Market yet (Quilting Show in Salt Lake City, Utah). I used images of her fabric, her quilts and buttons and some of my own images. I even put real patterns in the inside! The quilt show brought Lori much success of a "sale out" of her fabrics and patterns!

Another Easy Breezy Cherry Cobbler!

We had the family over Memorial Day for a BBQ, swim and dessert! I made this easy dessert that has been around for a long time. If you have never had it, you have to try it! It's a family favorite here.

(I make another kind of cherry cobber with recipe on my sidebar).

EASY Cherry Pie Cobbler!

2 cans cherry pie filling
1 white cake mix
3/4 c. butter, melted

handful of chopped nuts~optional

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt butter. Open pie filling and pour into 9 x 13 inch oblong cake pan, ungreased. Pour in cake mix over top of filling; spread evenly but DO NOT MIX with cherry filling. Pour melted butter over cake mix. Bake in oven for 30-40+ minutes until crust is mostly done. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.

Remember to kiss the cook!

Chick News!

Chick update...they are 10 weeks today!

I am amazed how fast they have grown. I have some shocking news! Do you see one is quite larger than the other two with a large tail? Well it turns out Sadie is a rooster! Some very loud, strange sounds have been coming out of her (him) this week?! Yes, a rooster and a very sweet one too. They were suppose to be all hens but picking 3 out of 100+ chicks, the odds were low but a little rooster could be among them! The sad :( part is I cannot have a rooster where I live. Sadie (now Sam) will be heading to a big ranch to live with lots of "chicks"...LOL! He will be very happy there even tho he was sure loving his 2 girls here. Someone said rooster is mighty tasty! I could never eat him!!! Actually I do not eat chicken anymore but looking forward to some fresh eggs for baking. I will miss Sadie/Sam.

Look how big Gracie is. Love her markings. She is a Barred Rock. Flossie is a Red New Hampshire. Both great layers. I plan on getting 2 more chickens.

Domestic: relating to the family and household

As a young child we were asked

"what do you want to be when you grow up?" Well...

I wanted to be a pilot like Amelia Earhart and a wife and mommy! My dreams came true, well in a kinda~ round~about~way! My son Nathan became a pilot and I his co~pilot ;)! I love flying with him! It's heaven!

I get emotional when I think he can fly.

My love for wanting to be a wife and mommy came from the wonderful examples of my Mother and Grandmothers. They were always doing & serving! I now have a empty nest but I am still doing & serving and lots of fluffing! Just a natural thing.

My crafting even has a domestic look to it! LOL!

Chick News!

An update on the chicks...they are growing! They are now 7 weeks old. Sweet, fun and a delight!
Hubby is making the coop and wait till you see what this man is up to! A coop you have never seen before!

I read this book to them just before I tuck them in their coop each night! ;)

I LOVE my Hunter rubber boots! They fit like a glove and I could wear them all day.

They are eating their 2nd stage of food now, just like a baby. Starter~Grow Crumbles...yummy!

I love that they eat out of my hand. They went crazy when I fed them worms from the feed store. It was candy to them!

I took this picture peeking through a window in their temporary coop. They sleep with a red heat lamp. The temperature needs to be between 75-80 degrees at their age now. I am such a good Mommy! :)

YES, I did buy this chicken purse and should be getting it this week! LOL!

What are you doing today? I am in my craft room doing a special order for 5 sewing journals. I cannot show them because the order is for a darling fabric/pattern designer and this fabric line is not reveled yet! They are so cute & bright! Fun, fun!

Guess what? This coming December we will have another blessing coming our way, our 13th grandbaby! Our 12th was born just last week! In December we will have a BAKER'S DOZEN!

This Easter Sunday we will be spending the day with family at our daughter Heidi's house! We are looking forward to this day with family and a time to remember our Savior Jesus Christ and for His atoning sacrifice.

I decided to set my dining table for hubby and I for the week anyway. I took all the leaves out of the table to make it more quaint. Sweet & cozy.

Easy Caramel Popcorn!

This is a very easy recipe for a fast way to make Caramel Popcorn!
Just 3 ingredients!

I pop my own popcorn in a big pot on the stove. I add popcorn kernels to cover the bottom of the pot then add canola oil halfway up to the kernels. I cook it on med/high until it's all popped. I do not shake, I just let it pop away! When done stir and add a little sea salt.
The best homemade popcorn ev~er! We love it just like this too! You can also use microwave popcorn or air popped.
