Keeping Busy in the Summertime!

We had such a fun week with the grandchildren! A full week of hosting family and having some special family time visiting, eating, and swimming. I miss everyone but they are ALL coming back next month! Yeah!

Getting caught up on lots of orders and adding new things to my Etsy shops! It's like a full time business and having fun at it!!! 
I made some new recipe and sewing journals & tags.

A Week at Grandma & Grandpa's!

Grandchildren Brayden & Sadie are here for a week! Their baby brother Ridge is only 3 months old but I am sure he can't wait to stay when he is a little older! Cousin Hailey couldn't wait to come see them and swim. We will have a houseful all week, then next month we will have all 12 grandchildren together again here! It's a great summer of family fun!
Our son Nathan is a pilot so he flew his own kids into our little airport this morning. It would have been a 3 hour drive, so flying was only an hour! Can't beat that!

A big "Thumps Up" from Mommy, Sadie, Brayden & Daddy! A great flight.  
Brayden was excited as always being his Daddy's co~pilot!
The cockpit. I have actually taken the yoke (wheel) and helped fly to Catalina Island one day! Nathan was looking at the map, my hands on the yoke, and eyes straight on the island. Scared, oh yeah! It was only for a minute or two but it seemed like an eternity!
Darling luggage and pillowcases I made them. I make them a new one each Christmas.
What's the first thing they want to do at Grandma's?  
Swim of course, eat watermelon and feed the chickens!
We will cherish each day they are here at The Beehive Cottage.

Busy Bee Paper Crafting!

This has been a busy week paper crafting! Trying to stock up on goodies for my Etsy shops. These kitchen and sewing journals fly off the shelf! :) Very fun to make!  
I made the dress in the pattern below as a teenager in 1968!

Make Your Own Candy Buttons!

Remember the old fashion candy buttons, that are still around? I LOVED them as a child and still do! Daughter Shelli made up a batch of them (and they actually taste better then the original) for our 4th of July gathering. They did not last long. I love her recipe and it doesn't leave paper in your mouth! Remember that?
I put them in these vintage jars that I have had for years.

CANDY BUTTONS

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 egg white
  • 3 drops yellow food coloring
  • 3 drops blue food coloring
A great tip! Piping is just like using a toothpaste tube, so the same rules apply: Squeeze from the end and keep the tip clean. (Save money and make your own pastry bag. Take a resealable plastic bag and snip off the tip of one corner.)

Directions:

  1. Cut white computer paper (we all have that!) into twelve 2-by-11-inch strips. Using an electric mixer, beat the confectioners’ sugar and egg white until thick and smooth, about 5 minutes. Divide the icing into 2 small bowls. Stir the yellow food coloring into one batch and the blue food coloring into the other. Cover the blue icing with plastic wrap.Arrange the paper strips side by side on a work surface. Scrape the yellow icing into a small, resealable plastic bag and snip off a tiny corner. Pipe out the icing onto the paper strips in dots, about 1/3 inch apart in even rows of 3. 
  2. When about a quarter of the yellow icing remains, add approximately the same amount of blue icing to the bag, stirring with a toothpick. Continue to pipe green icing dots onto each paper strip. Transfer the blue icing to another small, resealable plastic bag and continue piping. Let the dots sit at room temperature until hardened, 12 hours or over night.
