I love summer nights...one of my favorite parts of summer! Eating outside, watching the stars and maybe catching a falling star to wish upon, a night swim, the list goes on! I have actually fallen asleep here on the front porch several times, day & night.
I made some little hanging lights for the tree in the front yard that can be used inside or outside.
At night they look like fireflies/lighting bugs (which we do not have in CA) and sparkle like a chandelier during the day.

A couple pictures of them inside. They make sweet night lights too!
This year I will be adding them to the backyard trees!

Enjoy your summer nights!

Maryjane -- these are so cute and would brighten up any night. What is the gauge of wire that you use? Joni
Love those! We do have fireflies here and I love them.
Hugs,
Penny
beautiful night lights and your porch is so cozy! I bet you throw off the lighting bugs!
Your patio is beautiful, I would live out there too . I really love the sweet little jar lights you've made. Cute idea :o) Sue
Very pretty front porch. I like that idea for lights.
Maryjane, I love your porch. No wonder you love to spend so much time out there!
And I love your little lights. I make them too. So pretty with the fabric tied around the mouth of the jar!

Watching the "lightning bugs" from my porch as I type. Love the lanterns...what a wonderful idea!
Hi Maryjane, A few nights ago, my husband came in and woke me up, saying "You HAVE to come and see this!!" So, we went out into the living room and looked out the picture window at the back 5 acres ~ it was like a fairy land! Just incredible fireflies in the field and trees! Well worth waking up for (and I thought it was so sweet of my husband!)
Merry
Your little tealights are so pretty. Don't ya just love those batter operated ones?
Maryjane...that might be one of the most beautiful front porcches I have ever seen. I love it...it actually looks like an inside room when you first look at it.
We do have fireflies here-but not as many as we had a few years ago. Too many pesticides have been used and they are diminishing over time.
We love to sit down by the water (we live on Green Bay) and watch the sun set..and see what the water looks like-each night is different. Now..go take a nap on your lovely poorh! xo Diana
Id fall asleep here too its so comfy lookin.
Those are so sweet looking. I have some ball jars in the cupboard, I think I'll give this idea a try.
what a beautiful porch,, this is such a cool idea,,
What a fine idea indeed! I love that and wouldn't I love to have a BIG tree like that full of light! :D
i LOVE this idea! we have fireflies here, but you can never have enough twinkling lights, can you?
i made the easy cherry cobbler you posted a little while ago! it was soooooo delicious! my hubby wasn't too thrilled about it when i told him what i was making ... as neither of us is real cherry pie fans ... he was SO surprised at how much he liked it ... i was too! he said he could eat it twice a month! lol! thank you for sharing that recipe, it's a great one for family reunions, or other big get togethers! it tastes like it took alot longer to make than it actually does!
Happy Summer Maryjane!!Yes fireflies are a part of summer here...although with this severe heat and drought I haven't seen any this year. Your floating fireflies are adorable!!This would be cute inside the house on wheels also.
We enjoy floating in our pool with all lights off..and watching the stars pop out.It is like you are on a private island. These little lights would make it perfect. Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful...nothing better than the gorgeous out of doors on a summer night. I actually slept in the trailer last night. It was a warm pleasant night and the stars were goregous! Wish we had fireflies here...never seen them.
Love the lites I made those for my daughter's wedding.
I love the longer, lighter days and relaxed kitchen routine. We have neither firefly nor cricket here in England. I don't suppose I should try importing some from home (Canada), next time I make a trip back for a visit. Crickets especially are the iconic Summer sound.

What a wonderful idea! When I have my own property, I will incorporate this for sure. It just makes it look even more magical.
Beautiful!!
Love your lights! Your porch is beautiful...no wonder you love it there!
I have lots of memories growing up catching fireflies in a jar on summer evenings!

Maryjane, This is a lovely post! I can see why you could fall asleep out there! Nancy
Love it Maryjane, that is totally too cute. We have plenty of lightning bugs or fireflies in Louisiana but that is the neatest idea when you don't have them.
Those make the cutest night lights and could be extremely useful when we go camping. I can see them hanging from the awning and would look so much better than my flamingo lights. Thanks for the idea.
By the way we use to catch the lightning bugs and pinch their light off and use it for a diamond ring while playing house. No batteries required.LOL.
Maryjane, how lovely! Such a gracious and grace-filled outdoor living area.
I am drooling in my socks.
Barb :-)
This would make your trees look magical. I might try to make some for our 4th of July party. I love to be outside during the summer too. It's pretty hot here already, but if there is a breeze it is really nice.
Your door is so pretty, and that is a great use for those little battery candles. I went out to the country last night to visit my mom and looking out the doorway after dark the fields were filled with hundreds and hundreds of fireflies. It is such a magical sight! I just stood and smiled. What do I love to do in summertime? Just enjoy the sights:>)
Maryjane,
Love the lights you created! I love the rise and fall of the sound of locusts (today was the first day of the year to hear them), fireflies (we call them lightning bugs here), swinging in a hammock - often falling asleep there.
I have never seen a fireflies in my life -- never ever.. I really love your front porch I would enjoy my breaks through the day by sitting or cat-naping.. hugs
hi maryjane!
what a great porch!!! all of your sweet touches are just perfection. what a nice place for a lil' nap.
love,

I love the warmth and the flowers. And the scenery....and making little porchs sing 'welcome'. =)
Beautiful Maryjane! I've never seen a real firefly since we don't have them here in Utah either. Hopefully when we go to Nauvoo this fall I'll finally see one or two! Mimi
Love your porch Maryjane! Your jar lights are adorable!
Happy weekend!
xo, Amber
Love this idea! I'm going to have to try it in our front yard and back yard. In our back we strung those clear glass globe lights in most of our trees. It is so romantic. We've had them up for several years and through some pretty rainy winters.
Do you know the first time I saw fireflies in real life I cried? I'm a Cal native and I'd always read about them and wanted to see them. I was 38 when I saw them and I just cried tears of joy. I was over the top excited! My husband just laughed (in a kind way) and Baby Bee doesn't remember it at all. Thanks for making me think of that story. :)
Such a sweet idea! I've been thinking of doing this - now I am motivated! Your front patio is lovely! It looks so inviting. Hugs, Patti
Now that is a beautiful summer post. I love your porch. Don't you just want to stay out there all the time? We have had lots of fireflies this summer. They are so much fun. :)

Amazing, you can even make jelly jars look beautiful! Your blog offers a peaceful ambience to every visit for me, and also takes me back to my childhood where collecting fireflies in glass jars was the excitement of the summer:)
I love the candles in the jars! And I love being out at dusk. We sit on our balcony here at the condo and watch the sunset. We have more mosquitoes this year for some reason! ♥
