This sweet little wild morning dove has become a part of our family for the time being or longer. I noticed her a couple weeks ago for the first time and many times after as I was gardening. I thought she liked visiting me! Two days ago, I noticed she didn't fly when I approached her, so I scooped her up. She is in good health but cannot fly. Maybe she needs to grow back some feathers to do so. Most of her tail feathers are gone. Her wings are not broken and she is eating & drinking quite well. I temporally put her in my wood birdhouse and will buy her a new cage this week. I went to the feed store to get her seeds and the store owner told me they make wonderful pets. They are very mild, cuddly and make sweet sounds. I will keep you posted on how she does! For now, she makes everything groovy! Wild thing!

UPDATE: We had her for 1 month for her wing to heal, then she flew away with delight!

I love little doves. we live in the country and there are quite a few of them, I love to hear them make their cooing.
I hope she'll be OK. Maybe she has a broken wing? I hope she'll eat good.
That is amazing...this last spring a yellow canary flew into my window and was so dazed, I brought it in and put it in a cage with my other little bird, it revived after awhile but the next morning it had died. I hope the dove does well, maybe it would like a mate! ;D
What a sweet thing for you to take her in like that...I hope she improves!
Hope you're having a wonderful night...
Julie

Sweet you and sweet little dove. We have so many of them at our home and I love to watch them and hear them coo.

She is beautiful. Love that sweet face. She may not want to fly after she is pampered.
So sweet. Glad she is getting along so well, with you. Their coo is so lovely.
We have tried to raise them before as a single dove. They don't seem to flourish well. I was observing how they forage for food..bathe..ect..they are always with another one..or more.
Then we had two at one time..they lived for four years. When the one died..the other only lasted 1 week later..it quit eating..so sad!!
Good luck..I love their cooing!!

we have a pair that stays in our backyard every year, last year they built there nest on are patio, it was so fun watching them grow. yours needs a sweet name.
The beautiful and elegant mourning dove is just about my favorite bird in the world. Love to see them bob-bobbing along. Would love to have one as a pet. Hmmm. Wonder what Clyde and the dogs would think?

Your so sweet to rescue her.

She wanted to come and live inside your home!
What a dear you are to rescue this sweet creature. Lucky for her you have a big heart. I hope she does recover, but something tells me she may now have a permanent home ~ inside. :-)
That was so sweet of you to take her in Maryjane! She is safe now and will hopefully heal quickly.

How sweet! I hope she makes it. Who wouldn't love living in that cute birdcage? Mimi
OH, so glad that wild thing has found a good/safe haven with you..I'll bet she "makes your heart sing, too". I didn't know they like being cuddled. I hope she thrives!!!! Thanks for sharing this with us. Have a lovely weekend, Maryjane. Love and hugs from Oregon, Heather :)
p.s. Where you ever able to figure out the cause of why she isn't able to fly and how she ended up at your place? Sometimes I think God puts people and animals/birds together on purpose...like she was meant to be at your home!!!!
What a cute little dove, how special.
How wonderful! I love birds and am getting ready to find me a bird cage and some sort of little birds.
MJL,
What a nice thing for you to do. I wonder where her partner is? They most always travel in twos.
We have doves that come and feed a couple of times a day. Fun to watch. Let us know what happens your new pet.

Hi Maryjane,
I am so happy to see that you would take this sweet creature in and give it such a beautiful home. I have a little robin in the garden right now that can't seem to fly either. He just hops from one place to the next and I am so afraid that the cats will get him. I keep my eye on him, because I just adore the birds in my yard.
I really love your blog Maryjane. We have so much in common and I have enjoyed reading here today. I didn't notice where you live, but I love how you live.
Thank you for stopping by the little garden tea we had. It was nice to have you.
hugs
Beautiful! Best wishes for your newest family member.
