The Stockings Are Hung...

with love and care!
~
A few more pictures of the Family Room/Great Room. See all those red Christmas stockings? 21 of them to be exact! Well, I made all of them and they have the names of all our children, their spouses and our grandchildren on them. I used German glass glitter which gets a pretty patina with age. Each year the stockings get filled to the brim with sweetness and they all come over on CHRISTMAS DAY to open them! It is a very special part of our traditions. Before opening their stockings and other gifts, we sing carols, then have the grandchildren sing, play their instruments and entertain us! So sweet! Then Grandpa Don reads the Christmas Story of Christ's Birth and the Grandchildren act out the Nativity! We cherish and look forward to it every year.

One more post before Christmas will be my special "Mother's" Christmas tree! A vintage glass topper. Our Gingerbread & Snowman tree.I made all the sock snowman & the wood garland.
I bought this darling banner from Becky at
Sweet Cottage Dreams ! Made out of a vintage tablecloth.
My sweet little Angel tree with handmade ornaments from family & friends.
Some decor throughout the family room.A family heirloom Santa from the 1940's.

Thanks for sharing your beatifully decorated home with us! What a wonderful tradition for your grandchildren in usint those stockings. My Granny made tiny felt stockings for all 52 of us grandchildren and later the great grandchildren when we were growing up. Every year we looked for our stocking with such anticipation. It didn't matter what was inside, which was usually just a few dollars. What mattered was the tradition and the love she poured into making them year after year, even when her body became so worn out that it truly became a sacrifice of love.
She wrote our names with glitter too. Now mine, my husbands and our childrens stockings hang on our christmas tree.
Now I am a grandma for the first time and trying to decide what kind of stocking to make to hang here for my precious little grandbaby.
I will have to google german glass glitter- I have never heard of it!

Your grandchildren will treasure those stockings forever!
